Edley A. Hamer

Edley A. Hamer, 89, a life-long resident of Atkinson, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Hammond Henry Hospital Long Term Care Unit, Geneseo.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 16, 2022, at SonRise Bible Church-Atkinson with Pastor Dustin Largent officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery-Geneseo.  Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM prior to the service at the church. Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Atkinson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Edley Hamer Memorial Fund, which will be distributed among several local organizations.

Edley was born March 22, 1933, the daughter of Gordon and Alice (Atwell) Taber, in Atkinson.  She graduated from Atkinson High School.  On May 27, 1951, she married James “Jim” Hamer.  He preceded her in death on April 24, 2018.  Edley was a homemaker that loved to cook and take care of her family. She was a member of SonRise Bible Church and the Daughters of Ruth for many years. She and Jim loved going for day trips on a bus to see new places. She will be missed dearly.

Those left to cherish her memory include sons, Jim (Lori) Hamer, and Jon (Renee) Hamer; daughters, Janis (Lloyd) Smith, and Juli Hamer; eight grandchildren, Holly (Scott) VanOpdorp, Kate (Brock) Wyffels, Nick Hamer, Leslie (Kris) Judd, Eric (Amber) Hamer, Austin Hamer, Preston Cartwright, and Jessie Cartwright; and six great-grandchildren, Carter, Lilly, Hadley, Sawyer, Theo and Maeve.

Edley was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Alice Taber; her loving husband, Jim Hamer and siblings; Gordon Taber Jr., Donetta Wainwright and Merrill Taber.
