Elaine Margaret Marks, 89, of Geneseo, passed away at her home on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026, at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Geneseo.  Father Chris Haake will celebrate.  Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.  A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., prior to the service.  Vandemore Funeral Home – Geneseo Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memorials may be directed to Compassus Hospice (www.compassuslivingfoundation.org) and the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).

Elaine was born on January 12, 1937, in Moline, Illinois, the beloved daughter of Louis and Germaine (Scheirs) DeWispeleare. She graduated from Blackhawk College with an associate’s degree and went on to live a life rich in faith, family, and simple joys.  On January 8, 1954, Elaine married William “Bill” Marks, he survives.

A devoted member of St. Malachy Catholic Church, Elaine found deep fulfillment in her faith. She cherished annual travels to Gulf Shores, Alabama, and delighted in gardening, tending to her flowers, cooking for loved ones, riding her bicycle, and taking peaceful walks. She was a longtime participant in bridge club and an enthusiastic sports fan, loyally cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears while proudly supporting the Geneseo Green Machine.

Above all, Elaine’s greatest joy was her family. She treasured every moment spent with her children and especially doted on her grandchildren, who brought endless light and laughter into her life.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, William Marks of Geneseo; children, Bill Marks Jr. of Geneseo, Rick (Sarah) Marks of Geneseo, and Brad (Sarah) Marks of Allen, TX; grandchildren, Justin Marks, Taryn Marks, Dylan Marks, and Ben Marks; and great-grandchildren, Brinley and Mayson Weber.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Germaine DeWispeleare; siblings, Janet Young, Harry DeWispeleare, and Don DeWispeleare; and sister-in-law, Patricia Marks.
