Esther Anders

Esther Anders, 98, of Geneseo, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022, at Allure of Geneseo.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Geneseo with Fr. Daniel Gifford.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline, IL.  Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2022, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel.  A Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, prior to the visitation at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society – Geneseo, 14606 Roos Hill Road, Geneseo, IL, 61254.  Condolences may be left at www.vandemorefuneralhome.com.

Esther was born August 30, 1923, the daughter of Leo and Lucy (Burnhart) Woerly, in Colchester, IL.  She graduated from St. Francis Hospital nursing program in Macomb, IL.  Esther married James Leroy Anders on February 17, 1947.  He preceded her in death on December 3, 1987.  She worked as a nurse for many years and retired from nursing at John Deere in 1989.  Esther enjoyed going to the casino, gardening, crossword puzzles, eating catfish dinners, and spending time at her river house.  She loved animals, especially cats and was “grandma to a lot of kids”.  She loved her family and had a special place in her heart for her grandson James.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Jean Jones, Geneseo; and grandson, James “BJ” Michael (Kate) Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Lucy Woerly; her loving husband, James; son, James Leo Anders; granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Jones; son-in-law, Arvid Jones; and brothers, Arthur Earl Woerly and James “Jim” Woerly.
