Eugene Anthony Hartman, aka “Pops”, “Gene”, “Sparrow”, 67, of Annawan, passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at Hammond Henry Hospital, Geneseo, IL. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Atkinson Chapel. Reverend Terry Lancaster will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at the Atkinson funeral home. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org) and Illinois Cancer Care Foundation - Peoria (illinoiscancerccarefoundation.org).
Gene was born September 11, 1953, the son of Raymond and Delores (DeDecker) Hartman in Kewanee, IL. He graduated Annawan High School, class of 1971. In 1971, he worked for Illini Beef and also for Chicago-Atkinson Livestock Market for many years. He also farmed for many years around the Annawan area. He was most recently employed as a truck driver for Scott’s Company out of Morrison, IL, retiring two years ago. He was a volunteer at Hooppole Fire Department, beginning on November 9, 1984. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and tinkering around the garage. He enjoyed going to car shows. He had four grandchildren that he loved greatly.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Robert (Jessica) Hartman, Hooppole, IL, and Bruce Hartman, Annawan, IL; siblings, Jane Longeville, Mineral, IL, Nancy (Brad) Bussard, LA, and Steve (Dee) Hartman, PA; grandchildren, Destiney, Nathan, Bradley, and Gracie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Delores.
