Evelyn was born to John and Alice Dwyer on the family farm on Baker School Road on February 25, 1926, the middle child of three daughters. She excelled at school, winning penmanship competitions and citizenship awards, and graduated from Annawan High School in 1943. Following high school, she worked with her dad at the family business, an International Harvester Implement Store in Annawan, years she remembered fondly. She married Marvin DeSplinter on February 15, 1947, and they moved to the Dwyer family farm where they raised 4 children.
Evelyn loved farm life, cooking, baking, gardening, reading, her family, and Annawan. She was extremely close to her sisters, and they could often be found together, laughing. Her faith was very important to her, and she was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church.
Evelyn is survived by her four children, Michael (RoseAnn) DeSplinter, Nancy (Mike) Neyt, Joseph (Anna) DeSplinter, and Patricia (Jack) Donahue. She has nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin; two sisters, Imelda and Mary Ellen, a daughter-in-law, Bonita DeSplinter (nee Hodgett) and one grandchild.
The family is eternally grateful to the staff at WoodRidge, the Extended Care Wing at Hammond Henry Hospital, and Evelyn’s caregivers (Chelsey, Carrie, Jan, Roz, Stacey, Kathy and Janet) for their circle of support and care.
