Ferne E. (Wolf) Gerber

Ferne E. Gerber, 100, of rural Hooppole, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long-Term Care. Private family services celebrating her life will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021, at Vandemore Funeral Home in Geneseo, including visitation immediately prior. Burial will be in Hooppole Cemetery immediately following the funeral. Memorials may be directed to the Ferne Gerber Memorial Fund.

Ferne was born to Edward and Elizabeth Wolf in Moline, Illinois, on November 10, 1920. She graduated from Geneseo High School in 1939. Ferne was united in marriage to Milton Gerber on March 27, 1941, in Clinton, Iowa, and they farmed in the Hooppole area for sixty-four years. She was a lifelong member of Calvary Evangelical Congregational Church in Hooppole, where she taught Sunday school and youth group for many years. Ferne was a loving, humble, devout Christian who could play any instrument with strings, bake the best pies from scratch, give the most heartfelt advice, and make anyone feel special.

Ferne is survived by sons Edwin (Kay) Gerber, Gary (Laura) Gerber, and Merle (Marcia) Gerber; grandchildren Mark (Laura) Gerber, Rhonda (Lance) Arsenault, Kellie (Tom) Messman, Jennifer (Jose) Ruiz, Audra Gerber, Jason (Kellie) Gerber, Jeff (Katrina) Gerber, Robert Gerber, Daniel (Alexandra) Gerber, and Bradley (Teresa) Gerber; twenty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Betty Gerber; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister, Oleta; and a great-grandson, Alexander Gerber.
