Fred was born in Fitchburg, Mass on June 7, 1941, to Oiva and Elizabeth (Allan) Maki. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1964 and that same year he married his wife, Anita L. Doucette. They moved to Boston and Fred worked in management for S.S. Pierce in Boston, MA. He served four years in the US Army Reserves. He later joined SuperValu Stores out of Des Moines, IA. Through his position as Field Representative, he was required to make many moves including Des Moines, IA, Minneapolis, MN, Anniston, AL and eventually in 1978 leaving SuperValu to become the General Manager for Gil Achterhof of Galva over his six SuperValu stores in the area. In 1983 Fred and Anita bought the Geneseo store (Maki’s Super Valu) which they ran for fourteen years. After closing the store, Fred drove for Roehl Trucking Co. for several years. Upon his retiring from driving, he worked part-time for Casey’s General Store in Geneseo. He loved people and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was the #1 Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. Perhaps Fred will be remembered most for his Boston “sarcasm”. It was his way of relating to those he loved best. In his earlier years, Fred enjoyed golfing and working on jigsaw puzzles but more recently his interests were video games and spending time with his grandson, Christopher. He loved his two ShihTzu puppies, especially, Koko.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Anita, and his two children, Eric P. (Christiana) Maki of Lubbock, TX and LuAnn (Jeremiah) Wood of Knoxville, TN. He also leaves five grandchildren, Christopher Munton of Geneseo, Brennan (Clara) Munton, Jennifer (Munton) Blake and Tyler Wood of Knoxville, TN and Matthew Maki of Kansas, as well as four great-grandsons, Zaedyn, Ari, Oliver and Micah of Knoxville, TN and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Betty-Ann Sikora, and several aunts and uncles.
