G. James Anderson, 89, of Geneseo, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo Chapel. Reverend Bruce Bergthold will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post. Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., one hour prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to the James Anderson Memorial Fund.
James was born on November 29, 1929, the son of Charles H. and Florence (Ensey) Anderson, in Cambridge, IL. He graduated from Dewitt High School in Dewitt, IA, and proudly served our country in the United States Army. James married Waunita Mattingly on December 27, 1951. She preceded him in death in 1966. James later married Doris Racic Bowers on August 10, 1969, in Geneseo. Doris also preceded him in death in 2016. James was a lifetime grain and livestock farmer in Munson Township. He also owned and operated Anderson Trucking for many years. James was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Geneseo Moose Lodge, and the KAABA Shrine. James loved taking his wife, Doris, for car rides, and the time he spent wintering in Florida. He also enjoyed golfing.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Richard (Beverly) Anderson, of Bettendorf, IA, and Tim Anderson, of Geneseo; daughter, Pam (Mike) Anderson, of Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Charlene Bowers, of East Moline, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Florence, two spouses, Waunita and Doris, two sons, Mark Charles Anderson and Fred Bowers, and by his sister, Jean O’Donnell.
