Gail Gloria Hutchinson

Gail Gloria Hutchinson passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on November 28, 2024, at the age of 73. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 11 AM at First Lutheran Church in Geneseo. Pastor Laura Kamprath will officiate. The service will be livestreamed and can be watched at either the First Lutheran Church website or the First Lutheran Facebook page. A visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM the same day, also at the church. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church preschool. 

Gail was born to Mauritz and Gladys (Weber) Hulting on September 16, 1951. She was raised on their farm southwest of Geneseo, graduating from J.D. Darnall High School in 1969. Gail attended Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, and graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Gail loved teaching young children and taught 5th grade and Kindergarten for 37 years at Cambridge Elementary School.

Gail met husband Norm (from North-West Kansas) while traveling with friends. They were married in 1979, and had two children, Gloria and Dan, raising them on their farm that was less than a mile from where Gail grew up.

Gail loved traveling and took numerous trips to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean and all over the United States and Canada. Gail, Norm and several friends had vacationed in the Ozarks each summer for over 30 years. Another favorite thing to do was taking motorcycle trips with Norm across America; they’ve been to Colorado, Sturgis, Bike Week in Daytona and many others too numerous to mention.

One of her greatest joys came when she became a Grandma, eventually having 6 grandchildren that all lived less than a mile away from Norm and Gail’s house. Those grandchildren were blessed with hundreds of days and dozens of sleepovers with Grandma and Grandpa, much of the time spent in her new “Grandma room” where they would play, listen to music, and read books. We are so thankful that she was able to meet those grandchildren, but most heartbroken that she will not be with us to see them grow up.

Gail is survived by her husband, Norm, daughter Gloria (Ryan) Brock, son Dan (Rebecca) Hutchinson, and grandchildren Harper & Tommy Brock and Max, Jack, Benjamin & Anna Hutchinson, all of Geneseo. She is also survived by a sister, Sharon (Jim) Greif, brother-in-law Jim Breczinski, Uncle Dale (Mary Jane) Weber, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carol Breczinski.
