Gary L. Tomlinson

Gary Tomlinson, 66, of Kewanee, formerly of Geneseo, passed away on November 5, 2021, at his home at Courtyard Estates of Kewanee. Gary had resided at Courtyard Estates since 2011.  Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel. Reverend Dr. Chris Ritter will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, prior to the service, at the funeral home. Memorials can be made in his name to First United Methodist Church-Geneseo, IL.

Gary was born on May 21, 1955, at Hammond Henry Hospital, Geneseo, IL the son of Ralph & Shirley (Weber) Tomlinson. He attended Munson Center School his first three grades and graduated from J.D. Darnall High School Geneseo in 1973. Gary lived in rural Munson Township until 1975 when he moved to Geneseo with his mother, brother & sister. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Geneseo.

If you flew in or out of the Quad City Airport on a weekday morning from the 1990’s until 2007, you were probably greeted by Gary’s smiling face, an offer to carry your bag, and a question about the weather at your destination. Gary worked at the Quad City Airport for 19 years and before that at Rinks Market in Geneseo. Gary enjoyed going for car rides, getting ice cream, watching trains, discussing the weather, and popcorn

Gary is survived by his sister Sharon (Ed) Stanford, Olympia, WA.

He was preceded in death by his father Ralph in 1972, his mother Shirley in 2009, and his brother John in 2007.
