Glen Longin Hajek, 79, of Galva, passed peacefully to his heavenly home on Saturday, June 15, 2019, in the arms of his wife and daughters. Funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Geneseo Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Stephen Palm will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2019, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the Glen Hajek Memorial Fund.
Glen was born January 27, 1940, to Longin Peter and Kathryn Margaret (Neuhaus) Hajek in Leigh, Nebraska. The family moved to Geneseo, IL, when he was a young boy. Glen attended Wildemuth and Pink Prairie Country Schools, both one room schoolhouses, Geneseo schools, and graduated from Atkinson High School in 1957. He was a jack of all trades, enjoying the challenge of learning anything new. Glen was a farmer, barber, and owned a construction company. He built a subdivision in Shenandoah, Iowa, naming a street Hyak Drive. Glen had a Master Plumbers License in Page County Iowa. He spent 52 years as a professional truck driver, boasting that he was on vacation every day. He married Donna Klavon on October 22, 1994. Glen and Donna spent almost 25 years driving their semi coast to coast. He served as president of the Page County, Iowa Red Cross, a lifetime member of the NRA, the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA), and a member of Geneseo Evangelical Free Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Donna Hajek; sons, Dwayne (Tammy) Hajek, Peoria, Bryon (Juana) Hajek, Hugo, CO, and Tadd (Mary Ann) Hajek, Denver, CO; daughters, Lori (John) Holland, Papillion, NE, and Theresa (Phillip) Wortman, Shenandoah, IA; stepchildren, Donavun Walters, and Kelly Alexander, both of Shenandoah, Robin (Tim) Schaver, Moline, Craig (Linda) Klavon, Kewanee, and Carol Lowry, Lake City, FL; sisters, Elaine Fisher, Story City, IA, and Marilyn West, Sheffield, IL; sister-in-law Mary (Clyde) Kurrle, Nokomis, FL; grandchildren, Lindsey, Kyle, Lauren, Ashley, Lena, Trenton, Cameron, Mikelle, Sean, Madison, Koby, Kyra, Erin, Eric, Bobby, Jamey, Keith, Christopher, and Clint; 22 great-grandchildren; a dog, Molly, and a cat, Scooby.
Glen is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Geraldine Colter, and Nadine Anderson; granddaughter, Mickey Jo Hajek; great-grandsons, Wyatt Henry Orcutt, and Emerson Avery Hajek; and stepson, Richard Klavon.
