Gwendolyn Ann DePauw, 89, of Geneseo, passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Hammond Henry Hospital, Geneseo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021, at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Geneseo. Father Daniel Gifford will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel. A Rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m., prior to the visitation at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society – Geneseo.
Gwendolyn was born on December 24, 1931, the daughter of Raymond and Myrtle (DeReu) DePauw. When Myrtle married Fred VandeRostyne, Gwendolyn gained a caring father figure that assisted in raising her as his own. She graduated from Atkinson High School in 1950. Gwendolyn married Albert DePauw on January 27, 1951, in Atkinson, IL. He preceded her in death in 1996. She spent many years assisting her husband with farming in rural Geneseo. She was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church, the Altar & Rosary – Circle 14, and Geneseo Moose Lodge. She enjoyed cross-stitching. Gwendolyn was an avid Rolle Bolle player, along with her husband and family, winning state and world championships. She especially loved her children, grandchildren, and her dog, Sassy.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Amie DePauw, Roxana, IL, Beth (Chad) Davis, Geneseo, IL, Roy (Karen) DePauw, Geneseo, IL, and Paul (Jeanne) DePauw, Geneseo, IL; grandchildren, Ben DePauw, Rhett (Dina) DePauw, Cameron DePauw, Brent (Kim) DePauw, Laura DePauw, Ryan Forbes, Josh Forbes, Caitlin Forbes, and Braden Davis; great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Addison, Gwen, Beau, Claire, and Mayla; half-brother, Jerry DePauw, Kings, IL; and her half-sister, Kathy Porter, Lake Geneva, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; parents, Raymond, Myrtle, and step-father Fred; and son, Sam DePauw.
