Harland Duane Rapp, 74, of Cambridge, IL, passed away on September 11, 2023, at Carle Health Methodist Hospital – Peoria, after a long battle with cancer. A memorial graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Bishop Hill Cemetery. A memorial visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cambridge United Methodist Church and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105-9959.
Harland was born March 14, 1949, the son of Lawrence and Mildred (Lundeen) Rapp, in Kewanee, IL. He graduated from Galva High School in 1967. He proudly served the United States Army during the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged in 1975. He married Cindy (Wachtel) on August 3, 1974, in Geneseo. He retired from John Deere Harvester in East Moline in 2006. Harland enjoyed spending time in his garden, going to movies, and spending time with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who loved listening to his stories and jokes. He was a member of the Cambridge United Methodist church.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Cindy Rapp; children, Jon (Katie) Rapp, Jeff Rapp, Dawn (Lucky) Lang, Angela Rapp; grandchildren, Skyler (Calli) Rapp, Ricky (Amanda) Anderson, Ashley Anderson, Veronika Lang, Alexa (Zach) Lower, Alicia Anderson and Anthony Anderson; great-grandchildren, Maverick and Kai Rapp, Logan and Ava Lower, Rome Dinneweth, Aaron Kuster, Nick and Oliver Anderson; sisters, Elaine VanSkike, Pat (John) Seys, Sharon (Gerry) Verstraete, and Cindy (Marvin) VanDyke; and several nieces and nephews.
Harland was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mildred; brothers, Howard, Gary, and Dennis; sister-in-law, Jackie Wachtel; niece, Lori Doyle, Dana VanDyke, and Frannie Wachtel.
