Harvey G. Green, 71, of Geneseo, passed away on May 17, 2023, at his home. A Celebration of Life Memorial Visitation will be held from 2-5 PM Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory-Geneseo Chapel. Memorials can be made in his name to Richmond Hill Theater in Geneseo or consider playing Birdies for Charity at the John Deere Classic Golf Tournament. Harvey was born on July 13, 1951, in Hinsdale, IL, the son of Harvey F. and Ruth H. (Johnson) Green. He married Nancy Jean Worrall on June 12, 1976, and she survives. In his early education, he became a Thespian and boasted of performing with the actress Ruta Lee. He also belonged to the Boy Scouts and the Order of DeMolay. He began his college career at Western Illinois University, receiving a degree in Speech, English and Theater from Northern Illinois University. He also attended the University of Illinois at Chicago and received his Masters degree in Education from Saint Xavier University. Harvey was a teacher at Geneseo High School for 35 years. Over the course of his career, he helped produce Children’s Theater, Contest Play, Group Interpretation, Musicals, and numerous plays. He was also one of the founders of the Geneseo High School Madrigal. He was known as the voice of Geneseo Sports, announcing football, basketball, track meets, and many other events. He was an excellent educator, coach, husband, father, friend, and community leader.
Harvey was very involved in Richmond Hill Theater serving in many capacities. His ultimate passion was working with the PGA serving as chairman of the Marshals for the John Deere Classic Golf Tournament. He was one of the tournament’s longest running volunteers. Over the years he won many awards, but some of his favorites were Alliance for Arts Education, Recognition at the Illinois State Speech Convention, Outstanding Spokesman for Freedom Voice of Democracy, Illinois P.T.A. Educator of the Year, the JDC Hometown Hero Award, and GHS Voice of Geneseo at the football stadium. He made a great impact on the students and staff at GHS, and he will be remembered by many.
Those left to cherish his memory are wife, Nancy Green of Geneseo, daughter, Emilee Green of Chicago, brothers-in-law, Dan Worrall, Tom (Sherry) Worrall and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Ruth Green, and one sister, Mary Kircher.
