Helen F. Shane, 90, of Davenport, formerly of Geneseo, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Cremation rites will be accorded, and a funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025, at St. Mark's Anglican Church, 1550 7th Avenue, Silvis, IL, 61282. Father Jason Bowden will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Friday, before the funeral service at the church. Inurnment will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL, at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Helen Shane Memorial Fund.
Helen was born July 21, 1934, the daughter of Nicholas Everett and Virginia (Weichman) Reddick, in Quincy, IL. She married Daniel Whitney. He preceded her in death. On November 14, 1970, Helen married Clarence Neal Shane. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1989. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo with family and friends, playing games, watching western movies, listening to music, and volunteering at her church. She loved her pasta, pickles, and A&W Root Beer. Helen was a member of the Senior Citizen’s Kitchen Band, volunteered at the Geneseo Food Pantry, and a leader at The Little Red Wagon. She once had her picture published in the Geneseo Republic dressed as Rudolph for the Geneseo Christmas Walk festivities.
Those left to cherish her memories include her children, Sheila Emmer of Davenport, Judith Ann Whitney of Davenport, Martha Sweetland of Davenport, Roger (Jodi) Whitney of Davenport, Carl (Mary Hufford) Whitney of Rock Island, Robert (Linda) Whitney of Davenport, Daniel Whitney of Cherokee, IA; eighteen grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; and sisters Judy Flynn of Davenport and Irene Lang of Davenport.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas Everett and Virginia Reddick; husbands, Daniel Whitney and Clarence Shane; brothers, Leroy Reddick, Junior Reddick, and Ralph Reddick; son-in-law, Larry Emmer; grandsons, Johnnie Frees and Michael Whitney; great-grandson, Kegan Whitney; great-granddaughter, Linda Tucker; nieces, Theresa Shlue and Candy Lang; and nephew, Larry Lang.
