Herbert Durnell

Herbert Durnell, 66, of Colona, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at his home.  A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021, at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel. 

Herbert was born May 11, 1954, the son of Merle and Frances (Berg) Durnell, in Moline, IL.  He graduated from United Township High School, East Moline, class of 1972.  He then attended college.  Herbert married Julie Dowsett on September 28, 1974.  She survives.  He was employed as a stock clerk for Eagle Foods for 32 years and 14 years at Ford & Sons.  He liked classic cars, travel, and the Warbirds EAA Airshow in Oshkosh, WI.  Herbert enjoyed genealogy, barbecues, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his father, Merle; his loving wife, Julie; children, Mark (Crystal) Durnell, Geneseo, and Amy Berry, Atkinson; six grandchildren, siblings, Mary (Dan) Carter, East Moline, and Jay Durnell, East Moline.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances.
