James P. Dobbels

James P. Dobbels, 80, of Cambridge, IL, passed away on April 24, 2023, at Allure of Geneseo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 1, 2023, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Cambridge, IL, with Fr. John Zilimu officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory-Geneseo Chapel. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 4:30 PM. He will be laid to rest at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery-Atkinson, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Cambridge Ambulance or Henry Co. Fair.

Jim was born on August 19, 1942, in Geneseo, IL, the son of Alfred and Mary (Buyck) Dobbels. He married Carol DeSplinter on September 12, 1964. She survives. Jim was a lifelong farmer and also drove a semi and school bus for many years. He served his country in the Army National Guard, was a member of the Henry Co. Pork Producers, Henry Co. Farm Bureau for 60 years holding various positions and Henry Co. Fair Board. Jim loved woodworking, story telling and adored his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory are wife, Carol Dobbels, children; Tom (Ann) Dobbels, Tony (Anna Skubon) Dobbels, Chris (Jenny) Dobbels, Rick Dobbels, Coni (Chad) Pronschinske and Beth (Roy Wanless) Dobbels, Siblings; David (Deb) Dobbels, Don (Kathy) Dobbels and Joanne Dobbels, Grandchildren; James, Jacob, Josh and Gavin Dobbels; Mallory and Daniel Pronschinske; Alyssa and Nick Damato.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Robert, Alfred Jr., Gilbert and Alvin Dobbels and one daughter-in-law, Tammy Dobbels.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Allure Nursing Home in Geneseo for all the wonderful care given to Jim. They loved him for who he was and cared for him like family. A special thanks to the staff at Compassus Hospice who also helped care for Jim.
