James D. Hermie

James D. Hermie, 78, of Annawan, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. A private funeral service will be held for family on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson Chapel. Pastor Rena Whitcher will officiate. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Public Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the James Hermie Memorial Fund.

James was born on December 25, 1939, the son of John and Rachel (Smith) Hermie, in rural Annawan, Illinois. He is a graduate of Annawan High School. James married Donna J. Carrington on June 14, 1958, in Annawan. He worked as a welder for International Harvester Works in East Moline for many years, and he later retired from the company. James is a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Annawan. James enjoyed playing golf, making wooden toys, and having coffee with his friends at the Purple Onion in Annawan.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Donna, daughters, Kim (Gregg) Pickering, of Kewanee, and Sue (Chuck) White, of Sheffield, seven grandchildren; Brandon (Jenni) Pickering, Danny (Autumn) Pickering, Ashley Pickering, Shane Pickering, Kala (Jake) Peterson, Chelsea DeVoss, and Haley DeVoss, and 16 great-grandchildren. James is also survived by his brother, Jack (Marie) Hermie, of Bettendorf, IA, and his sister, Esther (Jim) Kuelper, of Prophetstown, IL.

James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rachel, a grandson, Nathan Pickering, and a brother, Robert Hermie.
