James “Jim” J. Haverback, 76, of Geneseo, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Cambridge Lutheran Church, Cambridge, IL. Reverend Randy Mullen will officiate. Military honors will be accorded at the church by the Kewanee American Legion Council. The visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel. Following the services, cremation rites will be accorded, and inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the James Haverback Memorial Fund to be distributed amongst Jim’s favorite local charities.
Jim Haverback, born June 20, 1949, to Herman and Alice (DeSplinter) Haverback, in Kewanee, IL. A Western Illinois University accounting graduate, he married Jean Briggs on August 8, 1970, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Cambridge. Jim served six years in the U.S. Army National Guard, was an Adjunct Accounting Professor at Black Hawk College, and worked for over 29 years at Hyster Company and 25 years at CSI Homes as an accountant. A devoted member of Cambridge Lutheran Church, he led as Cub Master for 13 years and served as youth baseball commissioner for 15 years. Jim cherished family time, cheering at his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, and found joy in numbers as a dedicated accountant.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Jean Haverback; children, Brent (Stephanie) Haverback of Beardstown, IL, Mike (Anne) Haverback of Geneseo, IL, Brad (Kindel) Haverback of Mount Vernon, IA, Darren (Maggie Doud) Haverback of Rock Island, IL, and Melissa (Nick) Creen of Port Byron, IL; grandchildren, Olivia, Kellen, Emily, Logan, Grant, John, Brayden, Ella, Adalynn, Quinn, Anthony, and Allie; and brother, Bob (Kollette) Haverback of Kewanee, IL.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Alice Haverback; and nephew Christopher Haverback.
