James “Neil” DeWeerdt, 75, of Moline, IL, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021, at Hammond Henry Hospital – Emergency Room Department. A graveside memorial service will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. Pastor Terry Lancaster will officiate. Memorials may be made to the VA Center - Iowa City or the American Cancer Society. Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting with the arrangements.
James was born on October, 13, 1945 the son of Vernon and Ruth (Mundell DeWeerdt) Viviani n Moline, IL. After high school graduation, he married his loving wife, Sharon Eastman on January 7, 1972. James was a factory worker for Arconic, at the former Alcoa plant, for many years. He served his country bravely in the US Army. He was a proud member of the VFW and the Morris American Legion. James enjoyed golfing, fishing, and playing cards in his free time.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sharon of Geneseo, IL; son, James (Sheri) DeWeerdt of Pekin, IL; daughters, Michele (Troy) Hofmann of Normal, IL, Jill DeWeerdt of Geneseo, Beth (David) Kramer of Omaha, NE, and Hope Kress of Omaha, NE; sister, Phyllis Kay (Dale) Olson of Taylor Ridge, IL; grandchildren, Alyssa (David) Evans, Paige (Garrett) Lingham, Zach (Morgan) Trulson, Jessie DeWeerdt, Briana DeWeerdt, Chase DeWeerdt, and Jacob Hofmann; and great-grandchildren, Riley, Wyatt, Oakley, Delilah, Taylor, and Tyler.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
