Jeff Alan Mercer, 52, of Geneseo, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at his home. A private funeral service will be held for the family. The funeral service will be recorded and available for viewing on www.vandemorefuneralhome.com/live-stream once services have concluded. A public visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Jeff Mercer Memorial Fund.
Jeff was born May 4, 1971, the loving and devoted son of B. John and Sharon (Reynolds) Mercer, in Silvis, IL. He graduated from J.D. Darnall High School, class of 1989. Jeff was a union operator for Midwest Operating Engineers, Local 150, for over thirty years. On March 12, 2021, he married Tracy Hofmann at a service held in Kewanee, IL. He attended Colona United Methodist Church, loved riding dirt motorcycles, camping, traveling to Florida, and four wheeling on his Razor. He loved his cat, Puddin, and his dog, Shelby. Jeff especially loved his family and will be deeply missed by all.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Tracy Mercer of Geneseo, IL; step-son, Andy Hofmann of Florida; father, B. John (Claudia) Mercer of Colona, IL; siblings, Susan (Bill) Johnson of Lafayette, IN, John (Karla) Mercer of Bettendorf, IA, Chris (Tim Recker) Barkema of Colona, IL; uncle and aunt, Robert (Bonnie) Reynolds of Cordova, IL; nieces and nephews, Ryan Mercer, Kayleen Mercer, Grace Mercer, Heather Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Amanda Kemme, and Tyler Oldfield; and mother-in-law, Pam Glawe of Geneseo, IL.
Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Mercer; uncle, Mick Reynolds; maternal and paternal grandparents; and cousin, Brent Reynolds.
