Jeremy Floyd Matney, 51, of Hooppole, IL, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Geneseo. Jim Bos will officiate. A memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Friday, at the church. Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel will be assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be directed to your local Humane Society, in Jeremy’s honor.
Jeremy was born on May 6, 1974, the son of Floyd and Patricia (Bos) Matney, in Geneseo, IL. He graduated from JD Darnall High School, class of 1992. On August 30, 2003, Jeremy married Cheryl Sinkler at a service held at The Chapel on the Hill located at Weber Park, Geneseo. He proudly served in the United States Army. He was employed as a truck driver for Walmart. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, hunting, music, and playing with his dogs.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Cheryl Matney; children, Aydin Matney of Kewanee, IL, Dylan Matney of Hooppole, IL, Diana Nehmer of Allegan, MI, Zach (Jessi) Nehmer of Allegan, MI, and David Nehmer of IN; grandchildren, Grace, Kylynne, and Gavin; parents, Floyd and Patricia Matney; brothers, Brian (Jen) Matney of Atkinson, IL, Joshua (Melissa) Matney of Hooppole, IL, and Josh (Tiffany) Wheeler of Erie, IL; nieces and nephews, Shawnia (Ryan), Jakki (Jeff), Hunter (Courtney), Mason (Sophie), Gabrielle (Chris), Corabell (Theron), Keaton, and Benjamin; and great-nephews and niece, Jeffrey, Leo, Charlotte.
Jeremy was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Peter C. and Marion Bos; paternal grandparents, Arnold and Madelein Matney; aunts, Diana Matney, Joanna Matney, and Jane Mueller; uncle, Peter A. Bos; and father-in-law, Donald Sinkler.
