Jerome DeBruyne Obituary

Jerome "Jerry" DeBruyne, 92, of Geneseo, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo.  Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory - Geneseo Chapel.  Inurnment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.  A memorial visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the memorial service.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Malachy's Catholic Church, 595 E. Ogden Avenue, Geneseo, IL, 61254.

 

Jerry was born on April 22, 1930, the son of Medard and Mary (Lenoir) DeBruyne in Moline, IL.  Jerry graduated high school in 1948, and married the love of his life, Doreen DePauw, on February 3, 1951. She preceded him in death on January 31, 2019.  Jerry and Doreen lived in Geneseo until 1980, at which time they relocated to Longview, TX, residing there until 2017.  In 2017 they moved to Mountain Home, AR.  Jerry returned to Geneseo, IL in May 2020 to live where he always called "home".  Jerry was employed as a certified mechanic and following retirement he was known as "Mr. Fix It" as he enjoyed being a handyman to friends, neighbors, and churches.  Jerry also enjoyed playing Mexican Train, card games, listening to his favorite music, and sharing stories with his family and friends.  Jerry was a member of St. Malachy's Catholic Church.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, Shawn DeBruyne of Mountain Home, AR and Chad DeBruyne of Longview, TX; brother-in-law Richard (Marlene) DePauw of Moline, IL; special nephew Todd (Alyce) Glazier of Plano, TX; special nieces Becky (Jerry) Canfield of Geneseo, IL, Chris (Rick Jewell) Elsberg of Rock Island, IL, and Melinda (Duane) Brown of Coal Valley, IL; plus, his great nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doreen, brother Charles "Charlie" DeBruyne, nephew Joseph DeBruyne, daughter Ann Sowells, and his sisters-in-law and spouses.
