Jerry Allen Johnson

Jerry Allen Johnson, 81, of Geneseo, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Hammond Henry Hospital – Emergency Department, Geneseo, IL. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Vandemore Funeral Home and Crematory – Geneseo Chapel.  Reverend Laura Kamprath will officiate.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.  Military rites will be accorded by the Geneseo VFW – Don Cherry Post.  Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Jerry Johnson Memorial Fund and will be distributed amongst charities that are meaningful to the family.

Jerry was born on June 20, 1940, the son of Carl “Gib” and Pearl (Firch) Johnson, in Geneseo, IL.  He graduated from JD Darnall High School and went on to attend college at Iowa State University.  He married Carol Fritz at a service held at First Presbyterian Church, East Moline, on January 29, 1972.  He was employed as a manufacturing engineer for John Deere, Davenport.  Jerry proudly served in the United States Army National Guard.

Jerry loved his family and was very proud of his sons and their families. He truly loved all his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow up.  He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Geneseo Moose Lodge, American Legion, and was a committee member for Ducks Unlimited for several years.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and beach vacations.  He was an avid Chicago Bears fan.  Jerry was a gun enthusiast, especially old firearms.  He even built black powder guns at one time.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Carol; children, Darrin (Sue) Johnson, Geneseo, and Sean (Jolene) Johnson, Geneseo; grandchildren, Claire, Derek, Tenley, and Jillian, sister, Janet (Gib) Cady, Cambridge; and his ever-faithful black lab, Bella.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Gib and Pearl.
