Joan Catherine Castelein

Joan Catherine Castelein, 80, of Las Cruces, NM, formerly of Geneseo, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at her home. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Geneseo. Father Daniel Gifford will officiate. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown, IL. A Celebration of Life, open to friends and family, will be held from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at St. Malachy Church, Geneseo, IL. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association – Illinois Chapter. 

Joan was born on August 28, 1941, the daughter of Michael and Eileen (Flanagan) Conley, in Peoria, IL. She graduated from Bradley University, Peoria, IL. On February 9, 1963, she married Leo Castelein. Joan enjoyed teaching children and had a strong passion for art and travel.  Joan was a Pi Beta Phi alumnus, a member of St. Malachy Altar & Rosary Society, St. Malachy School Board, and St. Malachy Parent’s Club. 

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Leo; children, Ann (Terry) VanHyfte, Rockwall, TX, Craig (Suzanne) Castelein, Lebanon, TN, Cam (Colleen) Castelein, Brecksville, OH, Conan Castelein, Las Cruces, NM, Carey (Lisa) Castelein, Hollywood, MD, and Christopher (Nicole) Castelein, Rock Island, IL; grandchildren, Allison VanHyfte, Morgan Castelein, Madison Castelein, Nicole Castelein, Lance Castelein, Luke Castelein, Zack Castelein, and Molly Castelein; and sister, Marilyn Stahl, Benson, AZ.

She was preceded by her parents, Michael and Eileen.
