Joanna L.. Thompson

Joanna L. Thompson, 83, of Kewanee, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021, at Toulon Rehabilitation &Health Care Center. Vandemore Funeral Home and Crematory-Geneseo Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Per Joanna’s request no services will be held. Born on August 20, 1938, to Cecil Richard and Loretta Elizabeth (Specht) Redell in Sterling, IL. She graduated from Kewanee High School in 1956. Married Paul Roger Catton on August 1, 1959, and later divorced in 1983. She then married Thomas J. (John) Thompson on October 16, 1997. He survives.

Surviving Joanna are her husband, Thomas, four children; Angela (Timothy) Hamilton of Kewanee, Jeffrey (Julie) Catton of Atkinson, Catherine (Robert) Nelson of Amery, WI, Steven (Brandi) Catton of Geneseo and one stepson, Robert (Patty) Kearnan of Lake Zurich, IL. Grandchildren; Cody (Emalee Brink) Hamilton of Cambridge, Dakotah Hamilton of Kewanee, Kelsey (Calvin) Baele of Annawan, Zachary Catton of Geneseo and Alyssa Catton of Bettendorf, IA. Step grandchildren; Brandi (John) Elias, Jason (Andrea) Hasbrook, Kylee Hasbrook, Steven Nelson, Cameron (Janelle) Nelson, Zachary and Kendall Kearnan, four great-grandchildren, eleven step great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Patricia Redell of Woodridge, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Terry Redell.

She moved away from Kewanee when she married in 1959. After retiring from Fraser Papers Distribution Center in August 2000 she and her husband moved back to Kewanee in 2001. She enjoyed embroidering, her cat, and feeding the birds and squirrels that came to her yard. She also enjoyed Taco night at “Cerno’s”.
