Joanne B. Struss

Joanne B. Struss, 91, of Silvis, formerly of Geneseo, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at her daughter’s home in Pensacola.  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2020, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo.  Reverend Steven Mueller will officiate.  Burial will follow at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, IL.  Visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel.  Memorials may be directed to the Joanne Struss Memorial Fund.

Joanne was born September 11, 1929, the daughter of LaVern and Elizabeth (Collis) Larson, in Moline, IL.  She married Kenneth Scheel, he preceded her in death.  Joanne later married Roger Struss on October 12, 1996.  He preceded her in death on May 27, 2018.  She was employed as a receptionist in a physician’s office.  She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, the Geneseo Senior Kitchen Band, and the Marble Group, East Moline.  She enjoyed spending her time playing cards with family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Susan (Jerry) Lee, Pensacola, FL, and Carol (Gerry) Chretien, East Moline, IL; son-in-law, David Carrithers, Williamsburg, VA; sister, Gladys Ward, East Moline, IL; grandchildren, Angie (Stan) Grant, Scott (Lisa) Carrithers, Chad Chretien, Stacy (Billy) Wilson, Corrie (Anthony) Nelson, Nichole Stone, Brandon (Jodi) Lee, Amber (Jeff) Byrd; nineteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, LaVern and Elizabeth Larson; her husbands, Kenneth Scheel and Roger Struss; daughter, Nanci Carrithers; one great-great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Freeman; brother, Gilbert Larson; and sisters, Bessie Cass and Beulah Martin-Reilly.
