Kevin Stewart passed away suddenly on September 20, 2023. Kevin was born in Hebron, Nebraska on October 23, 1962. He was the son of Dr. Donald and Mrs. Karen Stewart. He is survived by his mother, Karen; sister, Michelle Miller and her children; and brother, Sean Stewart (Jenny) and their children. Kevin was always known as the fun-loving uncle to his nieces and nephews; Nicholas Miller, Shane Miller, Jacob Miller, Fletcher Stewart, Callie Girten, and Livia Stewart. He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Donald Stewart. Kevin graduated from Geneseo High School in 1981 and then from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology. While attending WIU, Kevin was a proud member of the Reserve Officer’s Training Corps, US Army.
Kevin worked for over 40 years in Precision Machining and Quality Control, which was perfectly suited to his meticulous personality. His list of certifications and continuing education to perfect his craft are too long to list. Most recently Kevin worked at Hy-Capacity in Humboldt, Iowa. After working at several manufacturing facilities in Illinois and Wisconsin, advancing his career along the way, Kevin had found his “retirement job” and was as happy as he had ever been living and working in the small town of Humboldt.
Kevin enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, spending time with his dog (Herbie Husker) and the shooting sports. Recently home improvement, gardening and landscaping had become his favorite hobbies. He would be out every day after work tinkering with something to improve his home on the Des Moines River.
Kevin always preferred not to be the center of attention in his life and spent the majority of his free time with his family and close friends. He never wanted anyone to make a fuss over him, therefore; his family will have a private ceremony in his remembrance, and he will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo, near his father. While we appreciate your thoughts and prayers, there is no need to send flowers or memorials. If you would like to send a message to Kevin’s family, please share them on the memorial page at www.vandemorefuneralhome.com.
