Leanne Marie Alhorn

Leanne Marie Alhorn, 72 passed away on May 19, 2024, at her home. Leanne’s life will be celebrated with visitation being held at First Lutheran Church in Geneseo, IL on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM with services following visitation. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory-Geneseo Chapel will be assisting the family with arrangements. Leanne was born in Freeport, IL on August 6, 1951, the daughter of Wayne and Lois (McDonnell) Ellinor.  She grew up on a dairy farm.  She graduated from Lanark High School in 1969.  Leanne received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Augustana College.  She received her master’s degree in comprehensive education from Western Illinois University.  She was united in marriage to Ron Alhorn at the Lanark Lutheran Church in Lanark, IL on June 12, 1976.

Leanne was employed as an elementary and gifted teacher for the Cambridge Community Unit District Cambridge, IL from 1973 – 2007. She was chosen as a Master Teacher by The Dispatch newspaper of Moline, IL.  After her retirement, Leanne continued her love of teaching by substituting and tutoring students.  Leanne had a passion for teaching and her students.

Leanne was a member of the Facilitating Agriculture Education Advisory Council.  Leanne served as a board member of the Henry County Ag Literacy Advisory Council. She was the facilitator for the Geneseo Genealogy Group. She previously belonged to the Cambridge Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and served on the church council.  She was currently a member of First Lutheran Church in Geneseo IL.  Leanne loved spending time with her grandchildren and extended family, reading, traveling, with her husband, Ron, and her special teaching friends, playing bridge, delving into her genealogy, and attending sprint car races with her husband and son.

Leanne is survived by her son, Brian (Erica) Alhorn of Wheaton, IL and her beloved grandchildren Mackenzie, Riley and Reid Alhorn of Wheaton, IL.  She is also survived by her sisters and brothers, Linda (Jay) Allen, Earlville, IL, Martha (Alan) Rogers, Shannon, IL, Brad Ellinor, Lanark, IL, Barry (Kelly) Ellinor, Freeport, IL, Connie Zuck, Murfreesboro, TN, Kayla (Don) Fosler, Plymouth, IN and Carleen (Willie) McKee, Warren, IL.  She is also survived by her step-mother, Maurine Ellinor, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.

Leanne was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, parents, and grandparents.
