Linda K. Melby

Linda Kay Melby, 76, of Port Byron, passed away on October 11, 2024, at Friendship Manor in Rock Island, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday,  November 9, 2024, from 3pm-6pm at The Boardroom, 2220 37th street, Moline, IL. Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Linda Kay Melby Fund to be distributed amongst local charities.

Linda was born in Moline, IL, on March 21, 1948, the daughter of Earl and Shirley (Ingwers) Degeeter. She graduated from Riverdale High School in 1966. Linda worked for many years as a beautician, at the Pattern Makers League of North America and then eventually the office manager at Dr. Fehr’s office. She loved reading and writing children’s books. Linda really enjoyed writing and hosting murder mystery parties.   She loved adventure and enjoyed traveling.  For her 65th birthday, she bought herself a scooter and you could find her riding it whenever she could. Linda loved her family and spending time with them. She was feisty, sharp-witted, and had an incredible sense of humor. 

Those left to cherish her memory include daughters Julie Sachau (Rick Durey) of Port Byron, IL, and Tiffany (Brad) Dzekunskas of Moline, IL; brothers, Gary (Nikki) Kespohl of Milan, IL, and Casey (Bonnie) Kespohl of Minneapolis, MN; sister, Deborah Snave (Ronald Voorhies) of Davenport, IA; sister-in-law Linda Southwick;  grandchildren, Brock Dzekunskas and Brynn Dzekunskas, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Shirley; brothers Chuck Southwick and Mike Southwick.
