Linda Sue Oertel, 82, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2026, at Hammond Henry Hospital in Geneseo, IL. A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 10 A.M – 12 P.M. at Vandemore Funeral Home – Geneseo Chapel. A private graveside service will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family of Linda Oertel, to be distributed amongst charities of their choosing.
Linda Sue Brown was born on August 27, 1943, the daughter of Dale and Imogene (Salmon) Brown in Princeton, IL. She graduated from Kasbeer and Princeton Schools in 1961 and went on to obtain her Nursing degree from Lutheran Hospital and Schools in 1964. Linda married John Oertel in 1995. He precedes her in death. She worked at Hammond Henry Hospital until 2003 as a nurse as well as Liberty Village until 2010.
Linda loved antiquing, knitting, crocheting and doing puzzles. She enjoyed buying shoes and flowers. In her free time, Linda liked to read and play cards with her ladies’ group and couples’ group for dominoes. She was a proud member of the Grace United Methodist Church, the Geneseo Moose Lodge and a former member of the Red Hat Society.
Those left to cherish her memory include her special friend, Russell Gray of Geneseo, IL; children, Kim Gloden of Walnut, IL, Tracy (Tom) Inglis of Geneseo, IL; grandchildren, Shauna Regalado, Whitney Bowton, Sidney Augsburger, Morgan (Jordan) Bowton, Mikayla (Austin) Prevost, and Jason (Missy) Inglis; and great grandchildren, Courtney Paxton, Olivia Welch, Eira Augsburger, Miles Welch, and Cooper Welch.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Imogene; husband, John; brother, William Brown; sister. Joyce Norgaard; and grandson Bobby Inglis.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Hammond Henry Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion of Linda.
