Lorraine (Lorrie) F. Jurgensen

Lorraine (Lorrie) F. Jurgensen, 86, of Atkinson, IL, passed away peacefully in her new home at Allure of Geneseo on May 26, 2025. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Atkinson, IL at 10:30 A.M. Reverend S. Stephen Englebrecht will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Vandemore Funeral Home and Crematory – Geneseo Chapel from 4 P.M. – 6 P.M. on Friday, May 30, 2025. A Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 3:30 P.M. prior to visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or Atkinson Fire and Rescue.

Lorraine DeRoo was born on January 5, 1939, the daughter of Ralph and Alice (Croegaert) DeRoo in Geneseo, IL. She graduated from Atkinson High School in 1957. After graduation, she worked at the Rock Island Arsenal.  Lorrie married Robert Skrinski on September 6, 1958. He preceded her in death on May 25, 1973. Together, they raised a beautiful family. In 1979, she married Bob Jurgensen; they later divorced.  Lorrie worked as a secretary for many years at Atkinson and Geneseo schools until her retirement. In her retirement, she enjoyed working for the Atkinson Public Library and volunteering at Hammond Henry Hospital. Lorrie loved gardening, taking her grandkids on picnics to see wildflowers, and reading. She was also active in many civic organizations, enjoyed attending her grandkids’ activities, and spending time with family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, DeeAnn (Tim) Anderson, Geneseo, IL, Lin (Marty) VanOpdorp, Atkinson, IL, Kevin (Cindy Barker) Skrinski, Atkinson, IL; niece, Roz Murphy; grandchildren, Ryan (Erin) Anderson, Haley (Chris) Sparks, Jordan (Kristy) VanOpdorp, Bethany (Mike) Jacobson, Ben (Emily) VanOpdorp, Jacob VanOpdorp; great grandchildren, Owen, Caleb, Carter, Kiera, Eden, Adler, Ada, and Sidney (Siggy); and several nieces and nephews. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Alice DeRoo; her husband, Robert Skrinski; several special sisters and brothers-in-law of the Wancket family; niece, Rhonda Carmichael; and special friend of many years, Merrill Taber.
