Lyle Nelms Obituary

Lyle A. Nelms, 85, of Annawan, passed away on January 8, 2023, peacefully at his home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Riverside Cemetery-Prophetstown, IL, with Rev. Terry Lancaster officiating. Vandemore Funeral Homes and Crematory-Atkinson Chapel is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Lyle’s name to Annawan-Alba Fire Department or Henry Co. Lyle was born on May 24, 1937, in Prophetstown, IL the son of Ira and Nina (Arnett) Nelms. He graduated from Prophetstown High School Class of 1955. On October 18, 1958, Lyle married Patricia Wirth and she still survives. Lyle was a over the road trucker for 50 years, hauling a little of everything. He and Pat traveled all across the country hauling, which allowed them to see all the beautiful places they were going. They also made a lot of incredible friends along the way. Lyle loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren especially his great-grandson Jaxon. He enjoyed mowing the grass, reading and doing word search puzzles. He was a lifetime member of the Geneseo Moose Lodge and the OOIDA.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia Nelms of Annawan, children; Mark Nelms of Plainview, TX, Shelly (Martin) Dynes of Annawan and Chris (Craig) DeReu of Annawan, brother, Don Nelms of Rock Falls, grandchildren; Kala, Joel, Riley (Sarah), Taylor, Tory (Matt), and Dusty (Kasey), great grandchildren; Jaxon, Fen and Brighton.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joyce Perrine and brothers, Robert and Rodney Nelms.
