Marcia Kay Hammond

Marcia Kay Hammond, 63, of Galva (formerly Geneseo), passed away on October 15, 2020, in Peoria, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm, Tuesday, October 20 at Vandemore Funeral Home and Crematory in Geneseo. Due to COVID restrictions, the funeral service is private but will stream live online via the Vandemore Funeral Home Facebook page on Wednesday, October 21 at 11 am. She will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo.

Marcia was born in Freeport, IL to the late Lloyd Heeren and Jacqueline (Heeren) Sturtevant on July 19, 1957. Marcia graduated from Lanark High School in 1975. She went on to receive her Cosmetology degree from the Sterling School of Cosmetology. Marcia worked as a beautician for 42 years at her salon, Shear Magic, of Geneseo. She had a long line of loyal clientele whom she cared for in and out of her salon chair. Marcia was an active member of the community, always looking for opportunities to help others, namely cooking for them. She was also known for her involvement in her children’s sports and school activities. She grew up on a dairy farm where she developed a solid work ethic and love for the countryside that carried with her all her years. Marcia loved to be outside where she spent countless hours tending to her yard, garden, and “the pit”. In her spare time, she also enjoyed golfing, spending time with family and friends, and going on dune buggy and tractor rides.

She is survived by her beloved, Matt Happel; two daughters, Casey and Paige (Jobe) Hammond; an honorable daughter, Erika (Parks) Happel; a twin sister, Mary Bush; two older brothers, Lee and Paul Heeren; four grandchildren, Jarrett Andersen, Meila, Gwyneth and Lena Jobe; and two honorable grandchildren, Lily and Reed Parks.
