Marjorie Ann Olmsted

Marjorie Ann Olmsted of Geneseo, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, December 29, 2024. There will be a private graveside service for the family.  Interment will take place next to her husband at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo, IL.  Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel will be assisting the family with arrangements.  Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society – Geneseo on Marjorie’s behalf, 14606 Roos Hill Road, Geneseo, IL, 61254.

Marjorie was born February 16, 1934, to Carlisle and Elizabeth (Betty) Smith in Elmyra, New York. She spent her childhood in Elmira and later moved to Knoxville, Illinois, where she graduated from Knoxville High School. While in high school, she was the organist at Elmo’s Roller Skating Rink, where she met her future husband, Donald Lee Olmsted.    They both went to the University of Illinois and Marjorie graduated with a degree in journalism and a minor in music.  They were married on August 28, 1955.

She is survived by four children: David Olmsted of Kokomo, Indiana, Elizabeth Olmsted of Geneseo, IL, Robert Olmsted of Knoxville, IL, and Thomas (Marcy) Olmsted of Palmyra, Missouri. She has four grandchildren: Bethany Olmsted, Sara Olmsted Mobley, Madalynn Olmsted, and Riley Olmsted, and several great-grandchildren.

Her life was full as a homemaker raising her children, and one of her biggest passions was music.  She taught piano and organ lessons for many years.
