Martha Agnes Giesler

Martha Agnes Giesler, 85, of Erie, IL, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Cremation rites have been accorded and per the family’s wishes – no services will be held.  Inurnment will be held at a later date at Loraine Cemetery.  Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel will be assisting the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Martha Giesler Memorial Fund which will be distributed amongst local charities.

Martha was born on August 25, 1938, the daughter of William Lester and Adah Ruth (Robinson) Hungate, in Rock Island, IL. She graduated from United Township High School, East Moline, class of 1956.  She married Fred Giesler on September 8, 1956, in Davenport, IA.  Martha enjoyed spending time with family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, canning, cooking, and seamstress work.  She was a terrific homemaker.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Fred Giesler of Erie; children, Mark (Janice) Giesler of Erie, Martha Hoste of Cambridge, Celia (Bob) Streight of Cambridge, and Anna Sellers of Davenport, IA; nine grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Francis of Burrelson, TX and Joyce Snyder of Orlando, FL.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, William Lester and Adah Ruth Hungate; brothers, Carl, Elmer, David, Allen, and Richard Hungate; and granddaughter, Jamie Streight.
