Martin J. Krug

Martin Joseph Krug, 69, of Atkinson, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Allure of Geneseo.  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Atkinson Chapel.  Reverend Terry Lancaster will officiate.  Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery.  Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Atkinson Fire Department, 101 E. Henry Street, Atkinson, IL, 61235.

Martin was born on February 14, 1954, the son of Gilbert and Elaine (Slock) Krug, in Geneseo, IL.  He graduated from Atkinson High School, class of 1972.  He farmed for many years in rural Atkinson and was employed at Tyson within the quality control department.  Martin married Penny Wolf in 1976, they later divorced.  He was an alumni of the FFA, played football, and wrestled when in school.  He enjoyed showing animals at the Henry Couty Fair and farming.  He especially loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Heidi (Justin) Nanninga and Scott (Jenna Manning) Krug, both of Atkinson; grandchildren, Matthew, Zackery, Hailey, Cara, Kaylei, and McKenzie; and siblings, Patrick Krug of Florida, Kris (Cassie) Krug of Mascoutah, IL, and Kathleen VerCautren of Geneseo.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Elaine Krug; and one sister, Christine Krug.
