Marvel “Marlee” Lee Stiener, of Colona, IL, passed away on January 8, 2024, at her home.  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo.  Reverend Matt Kamprath will officiate.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.  Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at First Lutheran Church.  Memorials may be directed to Colona Township Food Pantry, 215 1st Avenue, Colona, IL, 61241 and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105-9959. 

 

Marlee was born January 4, 1945, the daughter of Ghlee and Marvel (Perdue) Babcock, of Moline.  She graduated from Moline High School, class of 1963.  On March 10, 1978, she married Mike Stiener at a service held in Colona.  Marlee was an employee of Country Insurance and Financial Services, March 2002 – December 2006, then Rock Island County Farm Bureau from May 29, 1991, through her retirement on February 19, 2002.  She was a member of Geneseo Jazzercise for twenty years, W.I.N.G.S. Investment Club, Colona Lioness, and First Lutheran Church – Geneseo.  Nothing was more important to Marlee than her family, she spent many hours having fun with her grandchildren.  Over the past years, Marlee and her grandchildren made a yearly scrapbook of the fun things they did throughout the year.  Every summer for the past eighteen plus years the family went to Adventureland Park in Des Moines, IA.  Exercise was a big part of Marlee’s life, starting every day with a walk or an exercise class.  She volunteered weekly at the Colona Food Pantry.  Marlee was very involved in many church ministries; her favorite being “funeral ministry”.

 

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Mike Stiener of Colona; children, Karen (Keith Saxon) Pittenger of Milan, Mike (Jenny) Stiener of Bettendorf, IA, Matt Stiener of Engelwood, FL, Susie (Loren) Bonser of Richland, PA, and Angie Stiener of Colona; grandchildren,  Marcus (Enedina) Peterson, Megan Peterson, Griffin Hernandez, Kelsi (Ethan) Kennedy, Kyle (Jordyn) Pittenger, Emma Stiener, Aiden Stiener, Trevor Bonser, Kellie Bonser, and Brandi Stiener; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Darrel (Jean) Babcock of Ponchatoula, LA.

 

Marvel was preceded in death by her parents, Ghlee and Marvel Babcock; daughter, Sheryl Peterson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joel and Nancy Stiener.
