Mary I. Weiler, 93, passed away peacefully during the night of Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at Heritage Woods of Manteno, IL. A private family visitation will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory - Geneseo Chapel. A private graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to St. Malachy Catholic Church in Geneseo, or to the Henry County Humane Society-Geneseo.
Mary was born August 1, 1927, in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of David and Ione Jennings. She was a graduate of Senn High School, Chicago, and attended Teachers’ College in Whitewater, WI. She taught rural school just prior to Geneseo School Unit consolidation in the late 1940’s. She was also a telephone operator for the Geneseo Telephone Company. She married William Marshall of Thomson, IL, in 1949. She later married David Weiler, of Geneseo, in 1977. Mary was employed as a reporter/writer for The Dispatch newspaper at the Geneseo office from 1961 until retiring in 1992. She was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church and was a member of Circle 2 at the church. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, listening to music, and caring for her pet dogs. She especially loved her family and the friendships that developed over the years.
Those left to cherish her memory include twin daughters, Billiemarie Marshall (Clinton, IL) and Barbara (David) Arseneau (Bourbonnais, IL); granddaughters, Meghan (Matt) Hendrickson and Angela Leeser; grandson, Paul Monts; two great-grandchildren, Jillian Leeser and Ian Hendrickson.
