Mary Lou Taube, 99, a lifelong resident of Geneseo, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Allure in Geneseo. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Vandemore Funeral Home and Crematory-Geneseo Chapel with Deacon Robert O’Rourke officiating. Her final resting place will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10-11 AM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the American Heart Association, the Brain Aneurysm Foundation, the Geneseo Community Park District, or St. Malachy's Church Building Fund, Geneseo, Illinois. She was born on January 19, 1923, the daughter of Harold G. and Nora (Robinson) Hofstetter. Mary Lou married Ernest W. Taube on January 5, 1945. She was employed as a telephone operator by the Geneseo Telephone Company for many years, retiring in 1982. She was very active within the community and particularly enjoyed working with the Geneseo Senior Citizens Center and the Hammond Henry Hospital Auxiliary. Mary Lou also enjoyed crocheting and was recognized by the Quantico Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society for the many receiving blankets which she made and donated through the years. She valued her memberships in the St. Malachy Altar & Rosary Society, the Geneseo Columbian Club, and the VFW Auxiliary. She was also a scout leader and avid gardener.
Mary Lou is survived by her son Paul and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest, her daughter-in-law Rosamond; her parents; her sister Evalyn Dedrick and brothers Robert Hofstetter and Charles Hofstetter.
