Mike was born Jan 10, 1958, in Hagerstown, MD, to William and Millie Scales. They moved to Geneseo when Mike was an infant, and he resided there through his teens. He attended JD Darnell High School and held a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Hamilton University. He worked at Mount Airy Psychiatric Hospital in Denver, CO, for six years and Devereux Behavioral Health in Broomfield, CO, for ten years prior to moving to Flagstaff, Arizona, where he continued work in the mental health field before moving back to Colorado.
Mike lived in several states, including Wisconsin, Ohio, Texas, Arizona, and made his final home in Westminster, Colorado. Mike’s call led him to a life working with young adults with mental and behavioral challenges. He had a special gift for helping others and was a good friend to many people. Mike married the love of his life, Suzanne Pimental Scales, on September 4, 2005. They both loved to travel and enjoyed 15 years together until her passing in 2019.
Mike had the kindest soul and always saw the good in everyone. He loved his family and friends and his dogs, Luna and Bailey and his cat, Drago (Kitty Boy). He was an avid Chicago Bears, Cubs, and Blackhawks fan and loved attending concerts. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his sister, Lisa Scales Swanigan of Canton, Ohio, his sister-in-law Audra Pimental and her son Jesse of Westminster, Colorado, his nieces Tammy, Tanya, Rebecca, and Nicole, and nephews Todd, Andy and Chip.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, William and Millie Scales, his wife, Suzanne Pimental-Scales, and his brothers, Ron and Steve Scales.
