Millage Johnson, Jr. Obituary

Millage Harson Johnson, Jr., 69, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at his home in Geneseo, IL.  A visitation service will be held to celebrate his life from 5 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel.  Alpha Phi Alpha will be performing the Omega Omega Service in honor of Millage at 7:30 p.m. during the visitation.  A funeral service and burial will be held at a later date in Hooks, Texas. Haynes Mortuary will be assisting with arrangements.  Memorials may be directed to the Millage Johnson Memorial Fund.

 

Millage was born on January 20, 1952, the son of Susie Mae (Threadgill) and Reverend Millage H. Johnson, Sr., in Hooks, TX.  He graduated high school and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from East Texas State, Commerce, TX. On June 14, 1983, Millage married Beverly Lanette McMillan in Redwater, TX.  He was employed as a budget analysis at the Rock Island Arsenal, until his retirement in December of 2019.  He was a member of Progressive Baptist Church, Davenport, IA.  He enjoyed fishing, barbecuing, gardening, and was quite the jokester.  He pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Zeta Tau Chapter, his line name was “Mind Bending Nine” and was also known as “Wizaroo”.  He served as president of Mu Chi Lambda in Illinois.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Beverly Lanette, Geneseo, IL; son, Millage Johnson III, Geneseo, IL; daughters, Briggette (Josquin) Underwood, Houston, TX, and Stacye (Aaron) Hargrove, Houston, TX; grandchildren, Josquin Underwood II, Sydney Hargrove, Kendall Underwood, Aaron Hargrove, Jr., Donovan Underwood, and William Hargrove; sisters, Gretha (Floyd) McCurdy, Dallas, TX, Shirley (James) Linwood, Pittsburgh, TX, and Tiny Johnson, Hooks, TX; brothers, Edward (Pat) Johnson, Forney, TX, and Oliver (Jewel) Johnson, Texarkana, TX; and mother-in-law, Mrs. B. Ruth Stokes, Redwater, TX.

 

Millage was preceded in death by his parents, Susie Mae and Reverend Millage Johnson, Sr.
