Moreen Thiessen Obituary

Moreen Mary (Schaecher) Thiessen, 88, of Geneseo, IL, passed this life and went to her heavenly home on July 30, 2025. Her loving and gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Geneseo, IL. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church.  Father Daniel Gifford will officiate. Moreen will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Prayer was always an integral part of Moreen’s life. She prayed frequently, supporting her family. Her love of family, people, friends, music, and belief in God’s goodness sustained her in times of trial throughout her life. Moreen was a member of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, where she belonged to Circle 13.

Moreen, born March 31, 1937, in Platte County, Nebraska, was the eldest daughter among nine children, following three brothers. Her parents, Albert and Mae (Schumacher) Schaecher, were farmers in Nebraska before relocating to Rock Island, IL. On September 27, 1958, Moreen married Gene Thiessen at St. Pius Catholic Church in Rock Island. Gene passed away on April 9, 2022. The couple later settled in Geneseo, IL.

She is survived by her twin daughters, Karri Thiessen of McHenry, IL, and Kelly Thiessen of Austin, TX; granddaughter, Nicole DeChante of Geneseo; great-grandchildren, Mia and Calvin; and two sisters, Marilyn Samuelson and Jolene Richardson.

Moreen was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mae Schaecher; husband, Gene Thiessen; sons, Brent Thiessen and Mitchell Thiessen; and six siblings.
