Nancy Louis (Johnson) Gustafson, 93, of Geneseo, passed away on October 5, 2024, at home surrounded by family. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory-Geneseo Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 14, 2024, at First Lutheran Church of Geneseo with Rev. Matt Kamprath officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Facebook page of First Lutheran Church, Geneseo IL. There will be a visitation from 10:30-11:00 AM prior to the service at the church. She will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery-Geneseo. Memorials can be made in her name to First Lutheran Church of Geneseo.
Nancy was born in Moline, IL, on August 3, 1931, the daughter of Carl and Emily (Ekstrom) Johnson. She received her bachelor's degree from Augustana College and went on to earn her master’s degree from Western Illinois University. Nancy was a dedicated 5th-grade teacher for 25 years in the Moline school district. She also worked as a secretary for First Lutheran Church for 5 years. Nancy married Martin Gustafson in Moline, IL in 1955. He preceded her in death in 1985. She was involved in different organizations through First Lutheran Church and was also a member of the American Scandinavian Association. Nancy sang in choir for over 70 years. She loved knitting, sewing, and needlepoint. She also enjoyed feeding the turkeys and birds at her farm home. She will be dearly missed.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons; Karl (Janice) Gustafson of Bridgeport, WV, Eric Gustafson of Geneseo, Hal Gustafson of Geneseo; daughters, Lisa Gustafson of Waltalingen Switzerland and Lori (Lori Hurd) Gustafson of East Moline; sisters, Barbara Willis of Mt. Prospect, IL and Arlene (Robert) Watson of LaGrange, IL, sister-in-law, Jan Johnson of WI; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Emily Johnson; husband, Martin Gustafson; daughter-in-law, Carol Gustafson, brother, Dale Johnson and brother-in-law, Harvey Willis.
