Nancy Newell Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nancy Ann Newell, on Saturday, June 21, 2025, who left this world after a courageous battle against glioblastoma. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, she touched countless lives with her kindness, strength, and unwavering love. Cremation rites have been accorded. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory – Geneseo chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo, IL at a later date.

Nancy was born on January 22, 1949, in Naperville, IL.  She graduated from Geneseo High School in 1967.  For many years, she dedicated herself to caring for the tiniest and  most vulnerable as a NICU nurse, offering not just medical expertise but also warmth and compassion to both babies and their families. Her heart was as big as her spirit, and she carried that same passion into everything she did.

She found joy in the rhythm of blues music, the freedom of the open road on her Harley, and the highs and lows of cheering on her beloved Chicago Bears. Above all, her greatest pride and happiness came from her family; her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Corinne Johnson (Weber) and Robert G. Ruehrwein, and her granddaughter, Caitlyn Nystrom.  Now reunited with them, she leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Stacy Nystrom (Lonnie Klemme), son James Winfree (Randi), sister Mary Hufford, brother Robert Ruehrwein (Jane), grandchildren Justin Nystrom, Kelsey Frank, Morgan Sarber, Bailey Winfree, Caleb Winfree, great-grandchildren Brantley, Harper and Hayes Frank, and the love of her life, John Chebuhar.

She will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.  Donations can be made in her honor to University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital, Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, or The Glioblastoma Foundation
