Patricia “Pat” Louise Wigant, 89, of Geneseo, passed away peacefully at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo, IL, on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel. Burial will be held at North Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, prior to the funeral service. Memorials may be directed to the Pat Wigant Memorial Fund, which will be distributed amongst various pediatric cancer funds.
Pat was born September 8, 1934, the daughter of Louis and Vera (Rowe Anderson) Wetzel, in Kewanee, IL. She attended Kewanee schools. Pat married Les Wigant on April 7, 1951. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2014. Pat worked at Geneseo Telephone Company for 34 years and enjoyed spending time with her telephone co-workers. She dearly loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always hosted wonderful holiday gatherings and made those times memorable for the family. Pat and Les enjoyed traveling. She was very creative and talented in crocheting, painting, knitting, sewing, gardening, and other crafts. She liked reading and learning about England. Pat enjoyed being with her friends, going to Saturday morning coffees and luncheons, and liked playing Bunco with her friends, also. She was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church. She belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society and was also a volunteer at Hammond Henry Hospital.
Pat and Les raised four sons, Leslie Wigant (deceased), Mike (Lois) Wigant of Geneseo, Garry Wigant (deceased), and Mark (Kim) Wigant of Summerville, SC; grandchildren, Celeste Wigant, Casey (Courtney) Wigant, Wendy (Damon Mitchell) Wigant, Anna Wigant, Joshua Wigant, Alex Wigant, Tristan Wigant, and Samantha Wigant; four great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Wigant Maier and Dawn (Merle – deceased) Wigant; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Wigant; sons, Leslie Wigant and Garry Wigant; parents, Louis Wetzel and Vera Wetzel; step-father, Oscar Verplaetse; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Leslie and Kate Wigant; grandson, Chad Wigant; and great-grandson, Mason Mitchell.
