Patrick "Pat" King Obituary

Patrick “Pat” Richard King, 68, of Atkinson, IL, went Home to Jesus on Tuesday August 19th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. The family is holding a private memorial at a later date. Memorials can be left in care of his family. Condolences can be given at vandemorefuneralhome.com.

Pat was born March 22, 1957, in Kewanee, IL, the son of Richard and Peggy King. He was a graduate of Atkinson High School and Black Hawk College.  Pat married the love of his life on August 28th, 1982. They resided in Atkinson, IL where they raised three amazing children, Bethany, Brittany, and Jacob. Pat loved farming and the farming industry where he made his living for many years. He was a registered livestock broker/dealer in the state of Illinois. He was a deputy for the Henry County Sheriff’s Department and was proud to have served. He later went on to John Deere product engineering and he was also a district manager for Lee Enterprises.

Pat loved spending time with his family and beautiful granddaughter Briar Rose. Every moment he had, he spent fishing, arrowhead hunting, playing cards on the patio, and going to the air show. Pat was a long-time member of St. Anothy’s Catholic Church and enjoyed ministering to others wherever he went.

Those who will keep his memory alive with the “hap, hap, happiest” of hearts are; his lifelong companion, Luan King of Atkinson; Daughters, Bethany Alexander of Atkinson, Brittany (Jarrod) Casteel of Cambridge; Son, Jacob (Deanna) King of Atkinson; Granddaughter, Briar Rose Casteel of Cambridge; Father, Richard King of Atkinson; Sister, Jodi (Clayton) Casteel of Cambridge; and all of the fur babies.

Pat is preceded in death by his mother Peggy and sister Kelly.

Pat will be remembered for his love of bad dad jokes, lasagna, pizza, chocolate, spaghetti, Chevy Chase, the Cubbies, and Da Bears. Cheers to a life well-lived and may the force be with you.

The family would like to especially thank the staff at Unity Point Trinity Oncology department in Moline IL, and the Unity Point Trinity Hospice Care, Moline IL.
