Paul R. Young

Paul R. Young, 67, of Geneseo, passed away unexpectedly while at his vacation home on the Isla San Cristobal, Bocas Del Toro, Panama, on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.  A memorial funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel.  Reverend Terry Lancaster will officiate.  A memorial visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 2021, at the funeral home.  Cremation rites will be accorded in Panama.  Memorials may be directed to the Paul Young Memorial Fund.

Paul was born July 30, 1954, the son of William C. and Elva “Ruth” (Palmer) Young, Jr., in Geneseo, IL.  He graduated from J.D. Darnall High School, Geneseo in 1972.  Paul worked two jobs during high school: Quality Dairy and Belanger Farm Equipment.  During this time, Chuck Dornfeld and Paul also started up a painting and sandblasting business called P&C Enterprises.  Paul took the business onto full-time status a couple years later and continued for about 25 years.  In the late 90’s, Paul took over the family farm.  He truly prided himself on carrying on the Young Farm for another 25 years, with just having retired from the farm in the fall of 2020.

He was a member of the Geneseo Moose for many years, a member of the Geneseo Masonic Lodge, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and was road commissioner for Edford Township for over twelve years.  He enjoyed camping, shuffleboard, riding Harley’s and snowmobiling.  His love of entertaining others and the company of his friends was very evident.  He loved having a good time and you were never a stranger to Paul after meeting him.  He had been looking forward to his new vacation home in Panama.  He loved his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Stephanie (Leon) Mardanes, Evansdale, IA, and Angie (Bryan) Frank, Hooppole, IL; grandchildren, Easton and Violet Frank; brother, Bill (Carol) Young, Corvallis, OR.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, William, Jr. and Ruth; his son, Cale; and one infant sister.
