Peter S. Chodera

Peter S. Chodera, 92, of Geneseo, IL, passed away on April 13, 2023, at Hammond Henry Long-Term Care Center-Geneseo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory-Geneseo Chapel. Visitation will be held from 10-11AM prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery-Geneseo. Memorials can be made in his name to the American Heart or Lung Association, 230 16th Street, Rock Island, IL, 61201. Peter was born in Chicago, IL on January 2, 1931, the son of Peter and Helen (Baginsky) Chodera. He married Rose Jowers on May 19, 1951, and she preceded him in death in 2012. Peter began working in Chicago as a television repair man before going to technical college. He moved to being a ammunitions specialist at the Rock Island Arsenal for many years, retiring in 1995. He loved woodworking, gardening, writing poetry, and fishing with his grandkids. Peter was a member of the Geneseo Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, St. Malachy’s Catholic Church and was very active at Isaac Walton, holding various positions over the years.

Those left to cherish his memory are daughters; Linda (John) Liebhart of Ottawa, IL, Cynthia Rugland of Geneseo, IL, 8 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Helen Chodera, wife, Rose Chodera and 2 sisters: Elizabeth Ross and LaVerne Neuman.
