Randy J. Childs, of Mineral, IL passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at the age of 62 after a short, yet brave battle with cancer. Randy's close family will hold a private graveside memorial service. Friends and family are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life in Randy's honor at Palsy's Bar in Annawan, IL on Saturday, November 6th from 4pm - 7pm. The family kindly requests no gifts or memorials.
Randy was born on May 1st, 1959, to Ron and Sylvia (Henson) Childs. Randy loved nothing more than being on the farm. He spent his younger years working on the family farm and quite literally stayed in the field for the rest of his career. A highlight for Randy was completing the Wheat Run in Western United States.
Some of Randy’s most cherished memories and friendships were made on the dirt of the softball field. Randy played on Snick’s Place Slo-Pitch Softball Team for over a decade in the late 70s – early 80s. His team won the USSSA National Class D Championship in Milwaukee, WI in 1982 and the Illinois Class A State Championship in 1988. Randy was proud to be inducted into the ASA Hall of Fame in 2014. He deeply treasured the friendships that he made on the field until the day he died.
Randy is survived by his father, Ron; sister, Sherri (Dave) DeSplinter; brother, Rick (Cindy) Childs; son Adam (Michelle) Childs; daughter Ashley (Brian) Thomsen; daughter Karah (Blake) Eisenschenk; and three grandchildren; Ames Childs and Trey and Quinn Thomsen.
Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia.
